Modern Farmhouse Bath

Bath Design | Fall Creek, WI

The homeowners desired a more space efficient bathroom that would flow with their rustic yet modern farmhouse. The space was cramped with a clawfoot tub set at an angle, limiting the door swing. Adding to the challenge was the bathroom’s short ceiling and lack of storage.

We took a number of approaches to make the bathroom feel bigger. A new pocket door eliminates congestion. Replacing the tub with a curbless shower removes physical and visual barriers. The sleek wall-mounted toilet conserves floor space with its tank built inside the wall. And the new vanity provides much needed storage and counterspace with a small footprint only 16 ½” deep.

We topped the wormy chestnut vanity with a 9” high concrete top and semi-recessed sink. Complementing the rustic farmhouse look, we finished the floor and three of the walls in tile made to look like weathered lumber. Tiling to the ceiling leaves the room feeling taller than it actually is. The white wall-mounted toilet, sink, and medicine cabinet pop against the dark tile. White subway tile in the shower balances the white fixtures in the room.
